This Floating Solar Platform is an innovative way to harness abundant solar rays falling on water bodies and to conserve precious water. It refers to the deployment of photovoltaic panels on the surface of water bodies.
Advantages:
i. The floating solar power plant don't require for any land space and is installed on water bodies. The land can be used for other purposes, such as farming or construction.
ii. The bodies of water exert a cooling effect, which improves the performance of solar photovoltaic panels by 5-10%.
iii. Provide electricity to several households located near the pond.
iv. Reduced water evaporation, improved water quality, and reduced algal blooming.
v. Installing an Aerator can increase the productivity of fish farming in the pond.
1. Northeast first Floating Solar Power Plant of 10.50 kW capacity successfully installed by Bhurbandha Gaon Panchayat on a pond in Thanagarha village at Morigaon district, Assam in association with Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA) and Quant Solar, Kolkata.
2. As an R&D initiative, Science, Technology and Climate Change Department, Government of Assam had 100% funded for another 9 nos. of Floating Solar Power Plant at different locations of Assam having capacity 10kW each. The project was implemented by AEDA (Assam Energy Development Agency) and executed by Quant Solar, a clean technology company incubated in IIT Guwahati, who is also a partner of the project. The pond is surrounded by few households which were not connected to the grid and the floating solar platform here has become an ideal way to provide electricity to this community.

3. First Floating Solar Power Plant on Amrit Sarovar in Assam:
Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA) under Science, Technology & Climate Change Department, Govt. of Assam has commissioned first ever Floating Solar Power Plant in an Amrit Sarovar on 04th March, 2024. It is a 8 kW Floating Off-Grid Solar Power Project commissioned on Amrit Sarovar in Rajgarh Bongali-2, under Lakhimpur Development Block, Lakhimpur, Assam. The Floating Off-Grid Solar Power Plant has a battery bank system and also includes 8 Nos. of Street Lights along with a 0.5 HP Aerator system. The Street Lights powered by the Off-Grid Solar Power plant are installed around the Amrit Sarovar providing illumination. The 0.5 HP floating Aerator in the middle of the Amrit Sarovar is intended to provide aeration, which increases the dissolved oxygen content of the water body. This essentially enhances the growth of the fish thereby increasing the yield of the fishery.
