Wind resource assessment is carried out through field measurements for the development of wind energy utilization.
The data and information generated thus is to be consolidated for the preparation of a National wind resource atlas and exploitation of wind energy.
At present, dedicated 50 meter/80 meter guyed masts with multilevel instrumentation are being used for the investigation with reliable and fully automated instruments that can give the necessary output for the wind resource assessment is being used at all the field stations in Assam.
80 meter Wind Monitoring Stations (WMS) are located in Dhubri, Goalpara, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup(rural), Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar districts in Assam. This project is in collaboration with National Institute of Wind Energy(NIWE) Chennai, Assam Energy Development Agency(AEDA) and Oil India Ltd.
Moreover, 7 numbers of 50 meter WMS is to be commissioned soon in Morigaon, Nagaon, Gohpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts in Assam under New/uncovered areas 2016/17 Project, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE),GOI.
